Adam is an award-winning academic, serial entrepreneur, and experienced strategy consultant. Adam has co-authored three books on business models and entrepreneurship. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
He was a strategy consultant with Michael Porter’s Monitor Group, serving clients such as AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Heineken, and the State of California. Adam co-founded four university spin-outs in the life sciences: Nerites Corporation, Stratatech Corporation, Virtual Incision Corporation, and Cellular Logistics. He served as CFO of all four ventures and interim CEO of two of the companies. He has served on organizational Boards and mentors entrepreneurs around the world.
Adam provides executive education and coaching in strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation through the Center for Professional & Executive Development at the Fluno Center. His CPED clients include international pharmaceutical companies, global consumer packaged goods businesses, regional and national technology companies, and state government entities. He has taught courses on strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation at universities around the world. He has also developed a series of online entrepreneurship courses in use in the UK and the US.
He won the 2018 National 3E Award from the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) for the best experiential entrepreneurial classroom activity.
Adam is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. He was selected as a Member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy in 2012. Adam served on the World Entrepreneurship Forum (Lyon, France) from 2011-2013.
Adam holds bachelors’ degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Quantitative Economics from Stanford University, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Imperial College London.
Daniel Bauer joined the Wisconsin School of Business faculty in June 2018 as an Associate Professor of Risk and Insurance and the Hickman-Larson Chair in Actuarial Science in the Department of Risk and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Prior to joining the faculty at UW-Madison, Bauer was the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company Endowed Chair in Actuarial Science and Risk Management at Culverhouse College of Commerce at the University of Alabama and Robert W. Batten Chair in Actuarial Science at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.
Professor Bauer’s research interests are at the interface of actuarial science, quantitative finance, and insurance economics.
Professor Bauer earned his MS in Statistics from San Diego State University and his PhD in Mathematics from Ulm University.
Daniel specializes in the development of models for the valuation and risk management of insurance products and insurance-linked securities. His research publishes in leading journals in actuarial science, economics, finance, management, and statistics, and he serves on the editorial boards of several journals in actuarial science and risk management. Daniel teaches classes in actuarial science, quantitative finance, and data analytics, and he serves as a co-director of the Master’s in Business Analytics at the Wisconsin School of Business.
Daniel received his doctorate in Mathematics from Ulm University, from where he also holds a Diploma in Mathematics and Economics. Furthermore, he obtained an M.S. degree from San Diego State University, where he studied Statistics as a Fulbright scholar. Prior to joining the faculty at UW-Madison, Daniel was on the faculties at the University of Alabama and Georgia State University.
Professor Enno Siemsen teaches courses in operations management, sales and operations planning, project management, and global operations strategy. He also teaches in customized executive education programs.
His vast expertise is in the fields of forecasting, sales and operations planning, operations strategy, product development, and project management. Siemsen is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, as well as the Production and Operations Management Society.
His research currently focuses on quality inspections and improvement, and on human judgment in sales and operations planning processes. He has been published in leading outlets such as Management Science, Organization Science, Journal of Operations Management, Strategic Management Journal, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management.
He currently serves as a department editor for the Production and Operations Management Journal and as an associate editor for the Journal of Operations Management and Decision Sciences.
Professor Siemsen received his Ph.D. in Operations, Technology and Innovation Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Additionally, he holds a Diploma of Business from the University of Göttingen.
Justin Sydnor is the Leslie P. Schultz Professor in Risk Management and Insurance and an associate professor in the Department of Risk and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business.
He joined the Wisconsin School of Business from Case Western Reserve University, where he was an assistant professor of economics with the Weatherhead School of Management.
His research interests are in psychology and economics, applied microeconomics, (behavioral) industrial organization, insurance markets, and risk and decision making.
Sydnor earned his B.A. in economics and German from UW-Madison and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Tim is a Lecturer for the Wisconsin School of Business in the Marketing Department, instructing Strategic Pricing, Marketing, Supply Chain/Capital Management and Accounting. He has extensive experience leveraging a proven industry track record of leadership, project management, working capital release and overall operational improvement initiatives. Tim teaches Strategy Formulation and Execution, Finance, and Supply Chain for the Wisconsin School of Business Center for Professional and Executive Development and is also a Principal at a finance and supply chain services firm working with companies on strategy execution.
Tim began his career as an auditor for a top public accounting firm followed by experience as a transactional black belt, master black, and strategy team member for the $4B Tyco Flow Control division of Tyco International. Tim’s subsequent corporate roles include CFO and President for manufacturing organizations where he had responsibility for strategic planning, risk mitigation, establishment of measurement systems, and overall financial performance.
Tim earned a BBA in accounting and finance and MBA in supply chain management and marketing, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Tim is an active CPA and has received black belt, PMI PMP, and SCMP certifications.
Tracy is a senior human resources and talent development executive with more than 30 years of business experience. She currently leads the Center’s full learning portfolio of talent development services including courses and certificate programs, coaching services, and organizational, leadership, and team assessment services. Tracy works directly with client organizations to understand their talent development needs and design solutions leveraging the full scope of talent and thought leadership from the University of Wisconsin faculty and beyond.
Tracy has been an active leader in her profession at both the local and national level. She was one of the first in the nation to earn the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance designation (CPLP) through the National Association for Talent Development (ATD), and served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin chapter of ATD including a role as President. She has been recognized for her leadership of an award winning learning function earning a national ATD BEST award honoring organizations demonstrating enterprise-wide success as a result of using talent development as a strategic business tool. Tracy was also twice featured in Training & Development magazine and serves as a national speaker sharing insights and best practices at learning and leadership development conferences.
In addition to her leadership at UW Center for Professional & Executive Development, Tracy serves as adjunct faculty in the MBA Strategic Human Resources Management program for Wisconsin School of Business and is currently Vice President of Community Outreach on the Executive Board of Directors for the Greater Madison Society of Human Resources Management.
Vallabh “Samba” Sambamurthy
Dr. Vallabh “Samba” Sambamurthy is the Albert O. Nicholas Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business, a position he has held since 2019. Sambamurthy is a leading expert on how businesses compete in the digital economy. His work has been featured in leading academic journals. Several Fortune 500 firms have engaged him as a consultant.
Working with executive clients and academic colleagues in China, Taiwan, Singapore, India, and Hong Kong, Sambamurthy has focused on digital business transformations, strategic alignment, governance, and innovation. He has co-authored several books on digital transformation. He has served on the editorial boards of premier academic journals, including two terms as editor-in-chief of Information Systems Research and leadership roles in professional associations.
Sambamurthy has garnered several recognitions for contributions to teaching, research, outreach, and mentoring. The Association of Information Systems honored him with the LEO Lifetime Achievement award. He was selected as a distinguished fellow of the Information Systems Society at INFORMS, and he received the William Beal Distinguished Faculty Award—the highest honor accorded by Michigan State University.
Sambamurthy received his PhD from the University of Minnesota, his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, and his B.E. from the National Institute of Technology (Tiruchirappalli, India).
